Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why should I donate?

A: Each NFL player’s experience is different after hanging up their cleats. Many retired players face challenges that impact them and their families. Donating to the Greater Good Fund is an opportunity to give back to those who gave so much to the game, while donating to the PFRPA Operational Legacy Fund strengthens our ability to support these former players.

Q: How will my donation to the Greater Good Fund make a difference?

A: A common perception is that most retired players are millionaires. This is not the case. Some were household names, and others may have started in one game. The older generation of NFL retirees earned far less during their playing years than those today. Your donation, of any amount, will assist PFRPA in providing these legends of the game with impactful benefits, including dental and vision care, in addition to support programs to ensure their legacy is not forgotten.

Q:How does the Greater Good Fund differ from the PFRPA Operational Legacy Fund?

A: The Greater Good Fund directly supports the health and well-being of retired NFL players. The Legacy Fund is a quasi-endowment, also known as a board-designated endowment, that supports PFRPA’s operational longevity and ensures our work continues to meet the evolving needs of our members.

Q: What is the difference between a true endowment and a quasi-endowment?

A: A true endowment is comprised of funds that are permanently restricted by the donor, meaning the principal amount cannot be spent. Only the investment income from a true endowment can be used for specific purposes. A quasi-endowment, or board-designated endowment, is created by the board of a nonprofit to function like an endowment, but the board controls the principal.

Q: Who manages the PFRPA Operational Legacy Fund?

A: The Legacy Fund is professionally managed by Goldman Sachs, a trusted financial institution. Their expertise helps ensure the Legacy Fund is invested responsibly, supporting PFRPA’s operational longevity.

Q: Will my donation(s) be tax-deductible?

A: Yes, donations to the Greater Good Fund and/or the PFRPA Operational Legacy Fund are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law.

A: All donors will receive a tax receipt after they donate, as well as a summary receipt at the end of the year. If you haven’t received your tax receipt or need another copy, please email us at [email protected].
